Sustainable Burendo
Sustainability drives everything we do at Burendo. We’re committed to delivering high-quality work while minimising our environmental impact, from our low-carbon offices to our client work.
A commitment to environmental responsibility
At Burendo, we believe that sustainability is more than just a buzzword. It’s a fundamental principle that guides our business. As a tech consultancy, we’re committed to delivering innovative solutions while minimising the environmental impact for ourselves and our clients.
Addressing the hidden environmental cost of technology
The digital age has brought about incredible advancements but has vast and often hidden environmental costs. The global technology industry produced 3% of the world’s carbon emissions in 2021, according to the UN’s Environment Programme – comparable with global aviation. This negative impact is likely to intensify as energy-intensive technologies like AI and blockchain become more widely adopted.
The tech industry has a vital role in leading the world toward carbon neutrality and Burendo is playing our part.
Our approach to sustainability
Recognising the environmental impact of technology, we’ve implemented a range of strategies to reduce our carbon footprint:
- Energy-Efficient Infrastructure: We use energy-efficient offices, equipment, and data centres to minimise our energy consumption. Our Leeds HQ uses traceable energy from 100% renewable sources.
- Sustainable Practices: From recycling and banning single-use plastics to reduce waste, to free bike hire for our colleagues, we’ve adopted sustainable practices throughout our operations.
- Carbon Offset Initiatives: We invest in carbon offset projects to compensate for our unavoidable emissions.
Applying GreenOps principles with our clients
GreenOps is a set of practices and principles focused on minimising the environmental impact of cloud computing operations. It’s about optimising cloud usage to reduce energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and overall carbon footprint. Our work with the UK Health Security Agency on their Multi Threat Data Dashboard reduced its cost to a fraction of what it used to be, not only minimising its environmental impact but also providing the client with significant savings.
Our ongoing commitment
Though we’ve achieved ISO 14001 certification, our sustainability journey is far from over. We’re continuously exploring new ways to reduce our environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future. By working together with our team, clients and partners, we’re committed to making a positive difference.
It’s been an incredibly rewarding journey, all our sustainability achievements are due to the dedication and innovation of our amazing team. We understand that companies like Burendo, as well as individuals, have a responsibility to the environment and we’re committed to continuous improvement and leading the way to a more sustainable future for everyone.
